"This mix is a little bit special for me.

Anyone who grew up in Scotland in the 90’s knows who Lenny Dee is. Rezerection legend. And I’ve yet to see him play a bad set.

As well as being a tremendous DJ, Lenny ran a whole load of labels, some better known than other.

Industrial Strength Records. We all know this one. It was the daddy back then, and remains a favourite even now.

Bastard Loud. This was like the bully of the family. Uncompromising and brutal.

Ruffbeats. The irritating little cousin. You wanted to dislike it, but couldn’t. Party Gabber.

Industrial Strength Limited. The rich bastard of the family who only appeared when it suited them.

There were others too, LD Records being the most notable.

Then there was IST. It didn’t even have a proper name. And it never really managed to fit in to any particular style, yet most people will recognise tracks from the label, and people who released on it. In the family this was the outcast, the misfit, but it was deadly. It was the one who would decide to go all Columbine at the drop of a hat. Sinister, dark, broody, fucking deadly.

And it was a favourite of mine. You didn’t get to here a lot of the slower tracks played much in clubs, with the exception of DJ Selector at Nosebleed. But they were all amazing.

This mix contains at least one track from each of the original 25 releases before it relaunched in the 00’s.
